Youth and Sports minister Dr. Biren Sikder after participating in the 9th Commonwealth Sports Ministers meeting at Australia Gold Coast, made a courtesy call and held a meeting with Australian Sports Minister Senator Bridget Mckenzie on Tuesday.
During the meeting, fruitful discussions were held between the two countries regarding sports development.
Dr. Biren Sikder informed the Australian Sports Minister that after 2008, Bangladesh National Cricket Team did not receive any invitation for Australia tour. The Australian government was requested to continue the bilateral tour of cricket.
Apart from this, he asked for cooperation from Australia for the development of hockey in Bangladesh, especially for the better training of hockey players and coaches of Bangladesh, and also to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between Bangladesh and Australia for sports development and promotion.
Earlier, the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Secretariat, Patricia Scotland, along with the State Minister for Youth and Sports on technical issues to promote the game for the Commonwealth countries.
Youth and sports secretary M Asadul Islam was also present in the meeting.
