Bird lovers throng into JU to see bird fair

Thousand of bird lovers from different parts of the country thronged into Jahangirnagar University (JU) to see the day- long bird fair at Jahir Raihan auditorium premises on the campus here on Friday. With the slogan ‘Pakh-Pakhali Desher Ratna, Asun Sobai Kori Jatna’, JU Zoology department, and Wildlife Rescue Center (WRC) organized the function in association with Bangladesh Bird Club (BBC), Forest Ministry and International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
JU acting Vice-Chancellor Professor M A Matin inaugurated the fair as the chief guest while official of the Forest Department Tapan Kumar Dey, President of Bangladesh Bird Club (BBC) Inan Al Haque, Executive Director of Arannyak Foundation Farid Uddin Ahmed, Ishtiaq Uddin Ahmed, convener of the bird fair Professor Mustafa Feroz and Chairman of JU Zoology department Sajeda Begume addressed as the special guests.
Presided over by Additional Secretary of the Environment and Forest Ministry Dr. Aparup Chawdhory, Professor of JU History department ATM Atikur Rahman conducted the inaugural session.
 JU VC Professor M A Matin said, the nature is now threatened due to felling of trees and environment pollution and more than 11 percent species of the birds are facing extinction. He also stressed growing awareness to protect the nature, environment and biodiversity from extinction.
