A day-long Bird Fair-2018 was held yesterday on the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus with a view to raising mass awareness to conserve birds in the environment.
JU Zoology department in association with Wild Life Rescue Center (WLRC), Bangladesh Bird Club, Aronnyok Foundation, Prokriti O Jibon Foundation and Bangladesh Forest Department organized the fair at the Zahir Raihan auditorium premises on the campus for the 17th time in a row.
JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam inaugurated the fair by releasing balloons at 10.30 am. Addressing the programme, JU VC said, ‘Huge number of migratory birds of different species and colors has come here in the Jahangirnagar University campus. We need to be more careful about their habitat. We must try to maintain a bird friendly environment here.’
Presided over by the Chairman of JU Zoology Department Professor Monwar Hossain Tuhin, JU Treasurer Professor Sheikh Md Monzurul Huq, Chief Executive of Arronyok Foundation Farid Uddin, Bangladesh Representative of International Union of Conservation in Nature (IUCN) Rakibul Amin, Founder of Bangladesh Bird Club Enam Al Haque, Forest Conservator of Bangladesh Forest Department Zahidul Kabir and Founder of Wild Life Rescue Center (WLRC) Professor Mostafa Firoz addressed at the inaugural session of the fair among others.
The day-long fair was featured with inter-university bird identification competition, photography exhibition on birds, drawing competition for children, bird watching competition through telescope, quiz competition, annual report presentation on bird and award giving ceremony.
