A daylong bird fair was held at Jahir Raihan auditorium on Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus on Friday amid festivity.
Zoology department of the university organized the fair with the slogan ‘Pakh-pakhali desher ratna: Asun sobai kori jatna (Birds are asset of country: Let us take care of it)’.
JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Farzana Islam inaugurated it as the chief guest while Hasib Irfanullah of IUCN, Abed Chowdhory of Aronnok Foundation and Mukit Mazumder of Prokrity O Ziban Foundation spoke it as special guests.
The day’s programmes included inter-university bird identification competition, exhibition of birds’ photographs, watching birds by children, painting competition, speech competition on birds, prize giving ceremony and releasing the confined birds.
Thousand of bird lovers from across the country thronged the bird fair.
With arrival of winter, thousands of migratory birds had taken shelter in the lakes of the university.
Most of them came from northern cold areas like Siberia, Mongolia, Xinxian and other places of the Himalayas.
