The brother-in-law of Biplob Chandra Baidya was freed after 30 hours of questioning by the RAB which picked up Bhidhan from his Jewellery shop in Bhola on Wednesday.
Meanwhile a case was filed against 400 to 500 unknown persons in connection with the reported vandalism of Hindu houses, temple and burning a shop during the clash between the police and demonstrators in Borhanuddin upazila of Bhola on October 20 that left four people dead.
Bidhan Majumder was picked up on Tuesday following Sunday’s clash over Biplob’s Facebook post hurting religious sentiment. He and one of his employees Sagar were released from the Rapid Action Battalion’s office in Bhola Sadar upazila on Wednesday.
Four people were killed and at least 200 others injured in the clash between police and demonstrating locals in Borhanuddin upazila of Bhola, demanding punishment of a youth for allegedly hurting religious sentiment on social media. Biplob, who filed a general diary with police claiming that his Facebook account had been hacked, was shown arrested in the case amid demands for his apprehension by local Islamic leaders.
Biplob is the prime accused in a case filed under the Digital Security Act on Sunday night though he had lodged a general diary with police on Friday afternoon, saying his Facebook ID was hacked and hate message were spread through the hacked ID.
Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan, Senior Assistant Director of RAB’s Legal and Media wing also confirmed that Bidhan was picked up for questioning in connection with the mayhem.
Bidhan’s family claimed yesterday that some unidentified men introducing themselves as detectives picked up him and his employee Sagar from his jewellery shop in Dolarhat area on Monday.
Biplob maintains his Facebook account, which was said to have been hacked and used for spreading the hate speech.
