UNB, Dhaka :
State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim on Wednesday said the ‘Central Biometric Verification Monitoring Platform’ will go into full operation on Friday evening.
She came up with the disclosure while addressing a press conference at her office in the morning.
The platform will work from Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) office, Tarana said.
All mobile phone operators of the country have already submitted their data to the platform, she said adding that BTRC will start checking the data from 8pm on Thursday and the process will need 18 hours to be completed.
Later, it will be opened for use on Friday evening, she said.
“Once launched, SIM card sellers of all operators will have to take clearance from the platform before selling any mobile network connection,” Tarana said.
As all the information of the mobile phone users will be stored at the platform, BTRC can identify how many SIM cards are registered with a single National Identity card, she added.
“If a person tries to purchase over 20 SIM cards using a single identity card, he/she will be detected through this method and will not be allowed to do so,” the state minister said.
She also said the number of illegal SIM users and VoIP will come down with the launching of the platform.
