The government is set to start biometric SIM registration from today overcoming all difficulties through trial and errors during piloting.
All the cellular phone operators in the country have also completed their necessary preparations to run the initiative taken by the government.
“The problems that appeared during the trial process have been minimized so we could run the SIM registration using biometric system smoothly,” state minister for post and telecommunications Tarana Halim told BSS.
Bangladesh as the second country has taken the initiative to introduce the human body-based indentifying system to ensure the ownership of cellular phone numbers to curb crimes made through phones. The process will be launched at a ceremony at Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) at 11 am on the victory day of the country.
Syed Talat Kamal, head of external communication of Grameenphone, told the news agency that they will offer the service at 35,000 Grameenphone centers across the country.
“All the necessary preparations in this regard have been completed to carry on the campaign,” he added.
