The first four-day long annual BIMSTEC Disaster Management Exercise will start on Tuesday with the participation of all of its member states in New Delhi of India.
The main focus of the exercise, to be conducted from October 10 to October 13, will be to create synergy and synchronise efforts to institutionalise regional cooperation and inter-governmental coordination efforts on disaster response among member states of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).
About 135 delegates from all BIMSTEC member states — Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bhutan and Nepal — including senior level officials dealing with related policy and operational aspects will participate in the exercise.
Nineteen personnel from each BIMSTEC member states, including one head of the disaster response, two mid-level officials in-charge of operations, 15 professionals or officers dealing with base or ground operations and one senior level official from the Nodal Ministry or authority for policy decisions, will take part in the exercise.
