Bangladesh International Mediation Society (BIMS) on Saturday demanded a mediation centre in the Supreme Court as an effective initiative to reduce case backlog by amending the conventional laws of both the divisions of the apex court.
This demand came from a General Meeting of the organisation held on the Supreme Court premises yesterday.
In the meeting, the participants said, our neighbouring country India is getting benefit to reduce case backlog by establishing mediation centre in the Supreme Court. So they demanded a mediation centre in the Supreme Court as an effective initiative to reduce case backlog by amending the conventional laws.
BIMS will place such a demand to the Chief Justice very soon, the organisers said in the meeting.
The participants also demanded inclusion of mediation in the syllabuses of the text books of the Secondary Education and to appoint the judges in lower and higher judiciary from the trained mediators. These initiatives can play a vital role to reduce case backlog and can bring peace in the society, the participants also think.
Abdus Salam Mandol, Deputy Attorney General, presided over the meeting. BIMS Chairman Advocate Samarendra Nath Goswami, Secretary Advocate Haridas Paul, Spokesperson of BIMS Advocate Md Alamgir Hossain, Deputy Attornery General Anwara Shahjahan, Jesmine Sultana and Dr S M Khaliquzzaman, among others, spoke in the meeting.
