Customs personnel yesterday arrested a cleaner of Bangladesh Biman long with 40 gold bars weighing 4.650 kilograms worth about Taka 2.32 crore from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the city.
“We arrested a cleaner of Bangladesh Biman Mostofa Kamal and seized 40 gold bars weighing 4.650 kg from his possession around 12.15 am yesterday while he was fleeing the airport,” assistant commissioner of preventive team of Dhaka Customs House Md Saidul Islam told BSS.
The estimated value of the seized gold bars, which was brought by a flight (EK-584) of the Emirates Airlines, is Taka 2.32 crore, he also said.
A case was lodged with Bimanbandar Police Station against the arrestee. The arrestee was handed over to police after filing the case.
