A section of Biman Bangladesh Airlines employees on Thursday laid siege to the office of its Chairman at Balaka Headquarters in the capital for one and a half hours over their 14-point charter
of demands relating to their job facilities. The staff of the national flag carrier began to gather in front of the office of Chairman Air Marshal (retd) AFM Jamal Uddin Ahmed on the second floor at around 11:00am.
They, however left the place at about 12:30pm, as the Chairman was not present in his office.
Their demands include a new organogram for Biman, recruitment of more workers for the ground handling department, allowances for meals and uniforms, 100 percent free medical facilities for employees, and regularisation of staff working on a temporary basis for five years.
Earlier on July 1, the Biman employees confined the managing director to Balaka Headquarters to press home their demands.
On that day, Biman Sramik League President Moshiqur Rahman, also president of Biman’s Collective Bargaining Agency (CBA), announced to besiege the office of the Biman Chairman if their demands were not met by Wednesday.
In January last year, Biman employees went for an indefinite strike over the same demands, which later boiled down into a single demand-resignation of the chairman.
