The Billboard Music Awards 2022 (BBMA) was held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The 29th edition of the BBMA was hosted by Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs which witnessed the absence of many artistes including BTS, Olivia Rodrigo and Kanye West.
Olivia Rodrigo and Kanye West took home the most prizes. Rodrigo won seven awards including best new artist, while Ye (formerly Kanye West) won six awards. The rapper dominated the faith-based categories. He won top Christian artist for the first time and claimed top gospel artist and gospel song. Ye also received the top gospel album for the second time in a row.
Drake won five awards, including top artist for the third time , male artist, rap artist, rap male artist and rap album for ‘Certified Lover Boy’ while Taylor Swift won four, including top country female artist for the first time. BTS, who skipped the event to work on their upcoming album, won three awards including Top Duo/Group, Top Song Sales Artist and Top Selling Song for Butter. The popular K-pop band has become the first group to win a total of 12 awards in the Billboard Music Awards’ history.
