The government has prepared a draft bill about the Digital University proposing to name it after the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The draft bill also proposed a provision to appoint Vice-chancellor through the president, top official source said.
He said the draft bill titled “Digital University, Bangladesh Act 2014” has dropped the provision to form a search committee for appointing a Vice-Chancellor of the university.
“We have already prepared a draft of the Digital University, Bangladesh Act 2014 bill and after finalization it is expected be tabled in the ensuing session of the parliament for passage,” said Education Secretary Md Nazrul Islam Khan .
He said the establishment of Digital University will be another bold push towards incorporating ICT into country’s educational system at a time when Bangladesh is moving fast for implementing Digital Bangladesh.
“A number of seminars will be organized before finalization of draft to incorporate opinion of the experts and teachers and making university world-class,” Khan said.
He said it will be an institute of postgraduate level studies and research, but finally the bill might keep provision of graduation level studies.
