The Hindu community on Thursday celebrated Mohadashami through performing the day’s main attraction “Kumari Puja” in the port city as elsewhere in the district.
The Kumari Puja, in which a pre-pubescent girl is worshipped as goddess, started at Chatteswari Mondir at 12 noon. Several thousands of Hindu devotees assembled at the city’s Kumari Puja venue to worship goddess Kumari. Eleven-year-old Binta Dey, daughter of Dr Bashu Dev Dey and Dr Rubi Dey, a class five student of city’s Dr Kastogir Government Girls High School, was worshipped as Kumari goddess who is symbolised as power.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) sources said a six to eight-member team of law enforcers has been deployed at each Puja Mandap and adequate numbers of law enforcer including, Armed Police Battalions, have already been deployed at all Hindu populated areas.
Besides, district and CMP have already opened separate control rooms at their respective headquarters to monitor the situation of 1,783 puja mandaps in Chittagong, including 266 in the city.
Additional police forces by the cMP and the district policedeployed at the immersion point of the Debi Durga .The main congregation of immersion of Debi Durga arranged Patenga sea beach . Fouzderhat beach and Parki beach also selected for immersing the idol Durga . Several hundreds of idol of Durga immersed at Karnaphuli river in the evening.
