The five-day Durga Puja began with the incarnation (Bodhon) of the Goddess Durga at temples on October 7. Chittagong Metropolitan Police, City corporation, local administration and law enforcers set adequate arrangement for immersion(bisarjon) of Goddess Durga at Karnaphuli river, Patenga and Kattali sea beach in city and urged all concerned to complete the immersion before 6 pm. Adequate security measures taken in the immersion spots in city beforehand, sources said.
The Maha Saptami puja was held on Saturday (October 8), Maha Ashttami, Kumari Puja and Sandhi Puja on Sunday (October 9) and Mahanabami Puja on Monday (October 10).According to official sources, a total of 1943 puja mandaps, including 251 in city, have been set up this year in the city and 14 upazilas of the district.Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television and private TV channels and radio stations also broadcast special programmes while national dailies publish special supplements highlighting the significance of Bijoya Dashami.
The Puja pandels and temples in the city and elsewhere in the district are now bustling with thousands of Hindu devotees as they thronged in the mandaps to celebrate Bijoya Dashomi .
On the Nobomi, just on the eve of the immersion of goddess Durga the festivity reached its peak as devotees visit different Puja pandels from noon to midnight to have last glance at goddess Durga seeking blessings for their well-being.
Meanwhile, leaders of different political parties irrespective of religion, cast and creed have also been visiting the mandaps to exchange greetings and pleasantries with their Hindu friends and neighbors . As part of the rituals of the last day of celebration, Dashomi Vhog (Feast) was offered to the goddess by the devotees.
