The five-day Durga Puja, the greatest of all Hindu festivals, came an end yesterday (Friday) with solemn immersion of the Goddess Durga in the port city and elsewhere in district .
Bijoya Dashmi , the last day of the five day long durga puja ended peacefully in the port without any nuisances Chattogram metropolitan police, and the City corporation of Chattogram actively monitored the immersion day at different points of the city specifically at Patenga sea beach, Karnaphuli river ghats at Feringhee Bazar, sadarghat, Kalurghat and Fouzderhat beach areas where the idols of goddess durga was immersed.
The Puja pandels and temples in the city and elsewhere in the district are now bustling with thousand of Hindu devotees as they thronged the mandaps to celebrate their biggest religious festival of Durga Puja.
On the day of Nobomi, on the eve of the immersion of goddess Durga, the festivity reached its peak as devotees visit different Puja pandels from throughout the day to have last glance at goddess Durga seeking blessings for their well-being.
According to official sources, a total of 1,717 puja mandaps including 255 in city have been set up this year and 15 upazilas of the district. Meanwhile, leaders of different political parties irrespective of the religion, cast and creed are also visiting the puja pandels to exchange greetings and pleasantries with community people.
Devotees thronged Puja mandaps to celebrate BijoyaDashami, the last day of the festival and reciting the mantras and offering flowers to the goddess Durga (pushpanjali) and praying for her blessings.
