Bijoy Mela begins tomorrow

The month-long ‘Muktijoddher Bijoy Mela’ (Liberation War Victory Fair), commemorating the historical victory on December 16 of 1971, will begin from December 01 at Outer Stadium and M A Aziz Stadium premises in the port city.
The ‘Muktijoddher Bijoy Mela’ Parishad headed by former Chittagong City Mayor Alhaj A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury had organized the fair in the Chittagong Stadium area for last 28 years. In this connection, a fair around the outer stadium area was usually held every year for about fortnight or month-long period.
On this occasion the commemoration of the war of liberation, rally of the injured freedom fighters, drama on the Liberation War, patriotic songs, display of photographs and films on the war of liberation, reception to the successful students and display of local and foreign industrial products including cottage industries products are held every day at the fair venue. Over 200 stalls are generally set up for displaying and selling different commodities.
Besides, discussions commemorating the events of the war of liberation will be held every day during the observance of the fair. Noted politicians and intellectuals of the country take part in this discussion.
Former mayor of Chittagong City Corporation and president of Chittagong City Awami League Alhaj A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury said, “it is the 28th Muktijoddher Bijoy Mela in Chittagong. We have to try to make the Muktijoddher Bijoy Mela more colourful this year.”
He said, “The spirit of Muktijoddher Bijoy Mela which started in Chittagong from 1989 and spread in the country and united the people for the spirit of liberation war in the country.
As a result, the pro-liberation forces led by Awami League are now in power.”
