Chittagong Bureau :
The Urdu-speaking people living in the port city on Friday condemned and protested the carnage at Kurmitola Bihari camp in the city’s Mirpur area that left 10 people killed. The protesters also demanded punishment to the perpetrators and immediate release of the 50 Biharis arrested during the arson attack. Several hundred protesters under the banner of Stranded Pakistanis General Repatriation Committee (SPGRC) formed a human chain and protest rally on the Chittagong Press Club premises. They complained that the law enforcers failed to arrest any perpetrator even after two weeks of the violence.
While addressing the rally, Sohel Akhter Khan, general secretary of SPGRC, Chittagong, urged the government to beef up security at the Bihari camps all over the country.
“Tk 5 lakh has to be given as compensation to the family of each person killed and Tk 2 lakh to be given to each person who came under the arson attack”, demanded Sohel, adding that no minister did visit the spot after the violence and none, however, received any kind of compensation from the government.
