Big win for Tigers

The Tigers registered a massive 90-run victory over Sri Lanka in their first One Day International match at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla, Sri Lanka on Saturday.

Sent into bat first, Bangladesh piled up a mammoth total of 324 runs for the loss of five wickets in the allotted 50 overs and then they bundled out Sri Lanka for 234 off 45.1 overs.

Tamim Iqbal led his team from the frontline scoring a splendid 127.

Shakib Al Hasan, Sabbir Rahman and Mosaddek Hossain also shone with the willow making 72, 54 and 24 (not out) respectively.

Bangladesh bowlers dominated over the Lankan batsmen.

Sri Lanka faced an early debacle as they lost their three wickets for 31 runs.

Captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza removed opener Danushka Gunathilaka for naught.

Mehedi Hasan Miraz dismissed Kusal Mendis for just four runs.

After dismissal of Mendis, Taskin Ahmed picked up opener Upul Tharanga for 19 runs.

Then Dinesh Chandimal and Asela Gunaratne added together 56 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Gunaratne (24) was dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan when Sri Lanka’s total was 87 for the loss of four wickets.

Dinesh Chandimal and Milinda Siriwardana put on together 34 runs in the fifth wicket stand before Chandimal was caught at the short fine leg by Soumya Sarkar off Mehedi Hasan Miraz when the islanders’ total was 121 for the loss of five wickets.

Chandimal made 59 from 70 balls featuring six fours.

Later, Milinda Siriwardana (22) was caught by substitute Shuvagata Hom off Mustafizur Rahman when the hosts’ score was 153 for the loss of six wickets.
