Business Desk :
Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) is going to prepare private sector investment plan for the country’s all districts aiming to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
“We’ve already prepared the structure of private sector investment plan by holding divisional level workshop to find out potential sectors of all districts and to involve people in development activities,” BIDA Executive Chairman Kazi M Aminul Islam told on Friday.
He said BIDA has already taken a programme, titled ‘Localisation of SDGs’ for promoting the development targets and investment at grassroots level.
Aminul said BIDA arranged workshop in every division to meet stakeholders, including business chambers, and identify the potential sectors in all districts.
“Every district has some potential sectors, which can play a vital role to accelerate the country’s economy. BIDA wants to find out the potential sectors and involve those in the mainstream of the economy,” he said.
The BIDA chief said: “We’re working to prepare the investment plan. In this regard, we’ll start the preparation process through the deputy commissioners at district level within one month.” After preparing the investment plan, BIDA will update the plan every year, he said.
He said the main objective of BIDA is to engage people in the activities of investment and development apart from promoting social entrepreneurship to achieve SDGs.
In 2015, the United Nations adopted 17 goals and 169 associate targets to end poverty and ensure prosperity for all as part of the new sustainable development agenda.
Out of the 17 goals, goal-8 is promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all.
Aminul said BIDA is working for alleviating poverty and ensuring education for all through promoting investment, which will increase employment opportunities and per capita income and help build an equitable society in the country.
He said BIDA is upholding various facilities, including one-stop-service centre for both local and foreign investors, to implement the SDGs by 2030.
“The Vision-2021 and the Vision-2041, declared by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, will play a key role as an anchor for the implementation of SDGs,” he said.
