Criminals vandalised and later set fire to the house of physically challenged Durgapada Das at Rajbati in Dinajpur Sadar upazila on Monday night, in an alleged bid to grab the land.
The victim Durgapada Das, a physically challenged person said , a gang led by local influential person Md Rezaul Karim attacked his house on Monday at around 1:00 am. They looted valuables and later set the house into fire, he added.
Police quoted victim’s family and locals as saying that the gang, equipped with sharp weapons, made the attack in an attempt to grab the land. The gang beat up Durgapada’s son Chandan Kumar, vandalised the house and set fire to it, locals said, adding that the victim’s family are now staying under the open sky.
Chandan Kumar Das filed a case with Sadar Police Station on Tuesday accusing 14 people, including Rezaul Karim. Immediately after filing of the case, police arrested Rezaul from Rajbati area.
Officer-in-Charge Md. Altaf Hossain of Sadar Police Station said, law enforcers have already launched a drive to arrest the other accused in the case.
