Police arrested one person for his alleged attempt to kidnap a student of Rajshahi University (RU) on Monday noon.
The arrestee was identified as Ujjal Hossain,25, son of Golam Mostafa, a resident of Darikhorbona area under Boalia thana of the city. Witnesses said two unidentified people, introducing themselves as detective branch personnel, in an apparent bid to abduct him, forced Nurzaman, a third-year student of the Statistic Department of RU, to
get on a motorbike at the university’s main gate while he was walking on the east side around 12:00 noon.
As Nurzaman raised screams, locals came to his rescue and managed to capture Ujjal but his associate got away. Being informed, police rushed to the spot and arrested Ujjal.
ABM Rezaul Islam, officer-in-charge of Matihar Police Station, said the arrestee was taken into custody and legal actions would be taken after interrogation.
