Non-government organisation Proyas Manobik Unnayan Society distributed bicycles among 75 distressed students including 41 from indigenous minority group on Monday.
The bicycles were distributed under “Socio-economic and human ability increasing activities” of Palli Karmo-Sohayok Foundation (PKSF) in a function arranged to celebrate the inauguration of the Padma Bridge at Chapainawabganj Old Stadium.
Managing Director of PKSF and former PS to the Prime Minister Dr. Namita Haldar attended the function virtually as the Chief Guest while Deputy Commissioner of Chapainawabganj AKM Galiv Khan presided over the function.
Former law maker of Chapainawabganj-3 constituency (Sadar) and Secretary of the Chapainawabganj District Unit of Awami League Md. Abdul Wadud and Executive Director (ED) of Proyas Md. Hasib Hossain also spoke in the function.
These students belong to the remote areas like Nadhai Krisnapur, Delabari and Gansapara under Gobratala union of Chapainawabganj sadar upazila.
They used to go to their schools by walking five to eight kilometres everyday, the speakers disclosed.
Proyas took up the initiative for providing these under privileged students with bicycles to save them from being dropouts and early marriage in association with PKSF, Proyas ED said.
