Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam launched ‘Jobike’, a bicycle rental service, in capital’s Gulshan area.
“When Covid-19 grips the whole country and experts suggest strict maintenance of social distance, the bike service will benefit people amid the crisis of mass transport,” Atiqul said this on Wednesday while launching the service.
The bicycles have a GPS-enabled chip that restricts movement outside of the designated operating areas and the fare is set Tk 1 for a minute, he said.
Bicycles are not only good for health of riders, but also for the environment, Atiqul said, adding, “Such a service will help build a smart, safe, clean and healthy city.”
