Farooqi to be laid to rest in Panchagarh

Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Sena (BICS) President Nurul Haque Chistee said that they would continue their seven-day protest programme, including countrywide daylong hartal on Sunday, if the killers of Maulana Nurul Islam Faooqi were not arrested by Saturday.
The party leaders and activists have already prepared to observe the programme to press home their demand including arrest and trial of the killers, he said.
The BICS president said that at a rally after bringing out a protest procession against killing of Farooqi, in the city’s Baitul Mokarram, Mosque North Gate, area after performing Jumma Prayer on Friday.  
Earlier, Ahle Al Sunnat Wa Al Jamaat issued a seven-day protest programme
 without any hartal. It also organized a press conference at National Press Club on Wednesday. On he other hand, Bangladesh Islamic Front (BIF) Chairman M M Mannan on Wednesday announced a 48-hour ultimatum demanding arrest of the killers of Maulana Farooqi. He also said that the party men would observe countrywide hartal on Sunday if the killers of Farooqi, were not arrested by the time.
The namaj-e-janaza of Moulana Nurul Islam Farooqi, the Imam of Supreme Court Mosque, was held at the National Eidgah Maidan after Jumma prayer on Friday. The National Mosque Khatib Maulana M Salahuddin conducted the namaj-e-janaza for Farooqi.
Chief Justice Mozammel Hossain, Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh Chairman Ibrahim Bahar and Islami Front president Mujibul Bashar Maijbhandari attended the janaza.
Earlier on the day, the namaj-e-janaza of Maulana Nurul Islam Farooqui was held on the Baitul Mokarram Mosque premises after the Jumma prayer. The noted Islamic thinker will be buried beside her mother’s grave in Panchagarh district.
Relatives of slain Farooqui, an Islamic programme anchor of private Channel-i, are taking the body to Panchagarh where he will be buried beside his mother’s grave.
Moulana Nurul Islam Farooqi, presenter of a documentary titled ‘Kafela,’ based on historic sites of Islam, on Channel i Television, was killed at his East Rajabazar flat in the capital on Wednesday Night.
Deputy Commissioner of Tejgaon zone Biplob Kumar Sarker said that the killers are completely professional. It seems that their intention was to kill Farooqi only. RAB’s Additional Director General Colonel Ziaul Ahsan said: “We are investigating the matter from different aspects such as political, family feud and business conflict. The culprits will be identified soon.”
