Bibiyana II power project expected to go into production at year-end

The Parliamentary Standing committee on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources on Thursday hoped that the 341-MW Summit Bibiyana II gas-based power project will go into production at the year-end.
The committee expressed the hope as it was informed at its fourth meeting that the work on the project under the Power Development Board is nearing completion.
The meeting, chaired by committee chairman Tajul Islam, also hoped that the construction on Bibiyana III gas-based power project will begin soon. Speaking at the meeting, committee member Atiur Rahman Atik said, “In most cases, the gas at CNG stations is used in industries and factories illegally.”
Atik recommended taking effective steps for stopping wastage and illegal use of gas as well as formulating a policy on CNG use. The committee also asked the authorities concerned to complete the ongoing projects and recommended taking immediate steps to cut illegal gas connections.
The meeting also discussed the power projects being implemented by the Power Development Board (PDB) and the present conditions of quick rental power plants implemented by private entrepreneurs.
Held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, the meeting was also attended by committee members State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, Mohammad Abu Zahir, M Abdul Latif, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader and Nasima Ferdousi.
