Students of Government Abdul Jabbar College in Bhola’s Borhanuddin Upazila have staged a sit-in demanding maximum punishment for Joy Chandra Das who gave incitation for the suicide of a Class XI student Medina Akter Nihar. The human chain was held on the road in front of Borhanuddin Municipal Police Station around 11:30 am on Monday. Apart from the students of that college, people of different professions also took part in the human chain.
Khaleda Begum, the mother of Medina Akhter Nihar, and Md. Salauddin Master, college student Mahmudul Hasan Bappi, Rafinul Islam Mizan and others. Note that on the afternoon of August 24, Nihar’s body was found wrapped in a veil with rice wood on the stairs of the paved house of Emran Master of Ward No. 6 of Pakshiya Union. Niha is the daughter of Nasim Swarnakar of Ward No. 9 of the same union. Joy Chandra is the son of Uttam Chandra Das of the same area. He is working in the Barisal Radar Unit of the Air Force. The next day, Nasim Swarnakar filed a case with Borhanuddin Police Station (No. 22, dated 25/06/2021) accusing Joy Chandra Das and his parents of inciting him to commit suicide. Borhanuddin police chief said. Mazharul Amin said the accused Joy’s father Uttam Kumar Das has been arrested in the case. Joy has been informed of all the official rules at his workplace as he is working in a force. Action is being taken as per rules. According to the case statement, Joy used to teach Niha privately from class five to class eight. Even then he had to come and go to Nihad’s house. At one stage, Joy falls in love with Niha in the temptation of marriage. After Nihar’s father found out about the matter, he told his parents along with Joy. Joy converted to Islam and promised to marry Niha. A few days later, Joy moved away from his position and said that he would not marry Niha.
