‘Bhaoyaiya Utsab begins in Rangpur

Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation and valiant freedom fighter Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu has stressed for properly preserving, flourishing and nurturing of our own cultural entity of traditional ‘Bhaoyaiya’ songs.
He was addressing inaugural ceremony of a three-day Divisional ‘Bhaoyaiya Utsab’- 2014 and formally launched it in presence of thousands of people of all ages at Public Library ground in the city on Thursday as the chief guest.
‘Sound Touch’, has been organising the three-day Rangpur Divisional ‘Bhaoyaiya Utsab’- 2014 as a part of its regular annual event under patronisation of Banglalink in the city.
Earlier, a huge colourful rally, led by noted ‘Bhaoyaiya’ artist and Researcher M Siraj Uddin and participated by hundreds of ‘Bhaoyaiya’ artists and cultural personalities from all over Rangpur division, was brought out in the city streets amid fanfare and festivity.
Over 500 ‘Bhaoyaiya’ artists and folksong dancers of different age groups from all eight districts in Rangpur division have been participating in various competitions, including ‘Bhaoyaiya’ songs, dances, ‘Geeti Nattya’ and other competitions in the festival.
President of ‘Sound Touch’, a reputed cultural organisation of Rangpur, Majedur Rahman Jhantu presided over the colourful inaugural ceremony.
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr Zakir Hossain, Regional Director of Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh Betar Abdul Haque, President of district unit of Sommilito Sangskritik Jyote Shakhawat Ranga, Bogra Regional Sales Manager of Banglalink Mazbub Alam and Secretary General of City Shop Owners’ Association Rezaul Islam Milan, addressed as the special guests.
