Bhabadah Movement Committee announces fresh programmes

Bhabadah Water Extraction Movement Committee ended its 4-day road march on Sunday after submission of a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, Jessore.
A rally was held at the office ground of the deputy commissioner during submission of the memorandum. Marchers, earlier, reached there at around 1:30 pm on Sunday.
Iqbal Kabir Jahid, adviser, Bhabadah Water Extraction Movement Committee, Chaitanya Kumar Paul, member secretary of the committee spoke to the marchers.
The marchers reached at Bhaturia College ground, outskirts of Jessore town on Saturday evening and start for the office of the deputy commissioner at around 11:30am.
After receiving the memorandum, Ashraf Uddin, deputy commissioner, Jessore told that agitators that he was aware of the situation of Bhabadah. ‘I’ll do my best to solve the problem,’ he added.
Iqbal Kabir Jahid, in his speech, announced that a human chain will be held at Shahbagh in Dhaka on December 22 and memorandum will be given to officials of the water development board on December 23 to press the demands.
Several thousand people of Abhaynagar, Monirampur, Keshabpur and a portion of Jessore sadar upazila and Dumuria of Khulna district and Tala in Satkhira district are being waterlogged round the year due to lack of initiative to draining out water from the water stagnated areas.
On way to the office premises of the deputy commissioner, Jessore, marchers held rallies at Bhabadah, Nawapara industrial town and Sundali under Abhaynagar upazila and Kalibari, Monoharpur, Konakhola and Shyamnagar under Monirampur upazila and Chansra under Jessore sadar upazila.
People of all ages and castes including women, elderly people and children took part the rallies. Marchers walked 40 kilometres defying rainy weather on Saturday. The march was kicked off on November 16 from Bhabadah sluice gates.
The committee, on October 24, 2017 announced road march movement towards the office of deputy commissioner, Jessore from Bhabadah from November 16 to 19 to press its to press five -point demands including inauguration of tidal river management programme before Maghi Purnima, ensuring food security to the affected people with subsidy and rehabilitation, removal of silts from the river Upper Bhadra and Buri Bhadra, freeing obstacles from all the recognized canals after recovering those from grabbers and ensuring free flow of water by removing every obstacles from the related rivers and canals.
