Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on Tuesday urged the government to set up two industrial zones near Dhaka and Chittagong to boost the production of the apparel sector.
“The Prime Minister has announced establishing 100 industrial zones that might require time to come into operation. So we request the government to set up two industrial zones for apparel sector on priority basis,” said BGMEA President M Siddiqur Rahman at a press conference on Tuesday at BGMEA office.
If the industrial zones are not possible, he sought khas land from the government in a limited scale so that “we can relocate the sick factories there that might help them escape from becoming sicker as well as help the banks to overcome crisis”.
About the country’s monetary policy unveiled by the central bank, the BGMEA president termed the monetary policy as a repeat of July-December of fiscal 2016-17, as it has become successful to control inflation.
