Utilising the existing capacity, the port authorities instructed the container ships carrying less than 1500 units to leave the jetty after completing the work of unloading the goods within 48 hours.
At a berthing meeting at Chittagong port, the port authorities instructed the shipping agents to follow this rule. However, the country’s exporters are being harmed by following this directive. On June 1, HR Ari left the jetty with 54 units and another ship named HR Hera left the jetty without carrying 22 exported export containers. Syed Nazrul Islam, First Vice-President of BGMEA, said that the garment factories in the country after Corona are getting more and more export orders from foreign buyers.
Compared to last year, the current growth in garment exports has increased by 35.98 per cent in April and 34.6 per cent in May. There is an obligation to ship the shipment of export goods within the lead time of the buyer.
However, it will not be possible sail the ship in time due to some specific problems as the port has to leave the jetty within 48 hours.
