UNB, Dhaka :
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on Thursday requested the government to withdraw the tax at source on ready-made garments export for the next two years.
The exporters made the demand in an immediate reaction after the announcement of the budget of 2017-18 fiscal. Appreciating the government for setting the corporate tax rate at 15 per cent instead of the existing 20 per cent, BGMEA leaders also requested fix it at 10 per cent for the next five years.
They also sought additional five per cent cash assistance alongside the existing facilities on Freight On Board (FOB) price of ready-made garment exports. Mentioning that the industry sector will provide the lion’s share to ensure eight per cent GDP growth rate to become a middle-income country by 2021, the RMG exporters urged the government to provide more assistance to this sector.
BGMEA leaders also appreciated Finance Minister AMA Muhith for achieving 7.24 per cent GDP growth rate and controlling inflation. Earlier on Thursday, Finance Minister AMA Muhith unveiled a Tk 4,00,226 crore ambitious budget for the next fiscal year (2017-18) saying he was placing this budget at a ‘historic juncture’ of economic development.
