BGMEA signs MoU with GFF to promote green finance

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) will collaborate with Good Fashion Fund to promote low-cost green finance in readymade garment sector of the country.
BGMEA leaders headed by President Faruque Hassan held a meeting with Bob Assenberg, fund director of Good Fashion Fund (GFF) and Bernadette Blom, director of GFF in Antwerp of Belgium on Thursday in this regard.
BGMEA Vice-President Miran Ali, Director Abdullah Hil Rakib and Shams Mahmud, managing director of Shasha Denims Ltd were also present at the meeting.
The GFF is looking to provide soft financing options to Bangladeshi entrepreneurs who want to invest in green technology.
Recently, BGMEA and the GFF have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support uptake of innovative sustainability solutions within factories in Bangladesh.
As per agreement, Good Fashion Fund will provide long-term loan in addition to technical and environmental and social expertise to the manufacturers to adopt sustainable production.
Meanwhile the delegation of the BGMEA, in separate meeting, expected the friendly support and cooperation of the European Union to Bangladesh, especially for the RMG industry.
It also hoped that the present support will continue in the coming days.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan has expressed the hopes during a meeting with Mahbub Hassan Saleh, Bangladesh Ambassador to Belgium at the latter’s residence in Brussels recently.
The reception was also attended by the representatives of the department of trade and employment of the European Union.
BGMEA Vice President Miran Ali, Director Abdullah Hil Rakib, Shams Mahmud, Managing Director of Shasha Denims Ltd and high officials of the Bangladesh Embassy joined the program.
The BGMEA President expressed thanks to the European Union especially for its recent move to remove 7.4-percent import-share threshold from the GSP-plus vulnerability criteria, as the step will pave the way for Bangladesh to apply for GSP-plus benefit after its LDC graduation.
Faruque Hassan also hoped the friendly support and cooperation of the European Union to Bangladesh, especially for the RMG industry will continue in the coming days.
He thanked the Bangladesh Embassy in Belgium for its proactive role in promoting the interests of Bangladesh in the European Union and also for hosting the reception.
