BGMEA signs collaboration deal with Sudokkho

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) signed a collaboration agreement with Sudokkho, a UK and Swiss government funded programme, for providing training consultancy service to the RMG sector.
BGMEA President Dr Rubana Huq and Team Leader of Sudokkho Erling Petersen signed the agreement recently.
Under the agreement BGMEA will get technical assistance from Sudokkho for providing training consultancy service to the RMG industry. The technical assistance will further encompass transferring Sudokkho’s knowhow into the academic curriculum BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT). The RMG and Textile Industry Skills council (RTISC) and BGMEA affiliated training centers will also get technical assistance under the agreement.
Rubana Huq expressed her satisfaction with the programme and how it is successfully assisting the RMG factories in establishing effective in-factory training system to increase efficiency of the sewing machine operators.
Sudokkho has established in-factory training centers in over 120 factories. The training system increases the skill of sewing machine operators in 15 to 20 days. After which, they can be placed on the production floor at 45 percent to 65 percent efficiency rate.
BGMEA Directors Asif Ibrahim, Miran Ali, Shihaboddoja Chowdhury, Joint Secretary Mamunur Rashid, Skills and Employment Director Sudokkho Suresh Mahto and Business and Market Development Lead Ashfaq Enayetullah, among others, were present at the agreement signing ceremony.
Sudokkho is a seven-year private skills market development programme in Bangladesh funded by UK aid through its Department for International Development (DFID) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). Sudokkho builds upon the TVET reform agenda of the government of Bangladesh. The programme is executed by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Government of Bangladesh. Palladium International is implementing the programme in consortium with SwissContact and British Council.
Sudokkho tests and scales-up market-driven, quality skills training systems within the readymade garments and construction sectors that will stimulate further investment in training by trainees, private training providers and employers. Sudokkho aims to ensure employment of 65,000 poor people, including women and disadvantaged populations, after successful completion of training through its partnerships with privately owned training service providers (PTPs) and industry-based training (IBT) initiatives.
