Business Desk :
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) urged the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to remove customs and bond-related impediments and streamline all procedures to facilitate the growth of the RMG industry.
“Business procedures should be made faster and easier to reduce time and cost, which will help accelerate trade and thus facilitate Bangladesh’s economic growth,” a BGMEA statement said quoting its president Faruque Hassan.
A BGMEA delegation led by Mr Hassan made the demand when they called on Md Masud Sadiq, Member (Customs Policy), NBR in the capital on Wednesday.
BGMEA Vice President Shahidullah Azim, former first vice presidents S M Abu Tayeb and Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, and former director Md Munir Hossain were also present at the meeting.
“Opportunities are huge for Bangladesh in the global apparel market where competition is also very stiff. Simplified business procedures are a prerequisite to retaining competitiveness and capturing new opportunities,” said Mr Hassan at the meeting.
He also informed NBR about customs and bond-related issues being faced by RMG exporters and called for their solution.
BGMEA president also requested NBR to take steps for speeding up the release of goods, machinery and equipment.
