BGB vows to resist violence in Ctg

Additional Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Brigadier General M Habibul Karim has said that they’ll resist all types of violence in the country while discharging their duties with utmost sincerity and responsibility.
During a view exchange meeting with the journalists at BGB South East Regional office, he observed that the Dhaka-Chittagong highway is the most significant one for the country’s’ economy.
Hence, he said, they’ve increased patrol in the vulnerable areas to thwart all types of violence during the ongoing countrywide blockade enforced by the BNP-led alliance.
He also said that as per directives of the Prime Minister they’ve geared up their vigilance from January 7 so that all Teknaf-Cox’s Bazar- Chittagong bound passengers and tank lorries can move safer.
A number of temporary camps from Teknaf to Feni have been set up to check violence, he added.
Lt Col M Tauhidul Islam, Director Operation of South East Region, Lt Col Tymor Saladin Kaikobad, Bureau Chief of Regional Intelligence, Lt Col Abu M Mohiuddin, Additional Director (Administration) Maj Sabbir Ahmed, Deputy Commander Maj Thanvir Mahmud and Assistant Director M Nurul Islam were present, among others, in the conference.
3 dacoits held with arms : Halishahar thana police of CMP rounded up three members of a dacoity gang from Halishahar area in city on Monday night.
 The dacoits identified as Md.Masud alias Pichchi Masud and his two accomplices Jahangir and Ismail . The dacoity gang members were rounded up while taking preparations for committing dacoity of a covered van at Chowtala covered van depot under Halishahar thana .
 Officer incharge of Halishahar thana Md. Shahjahan Kabir told that the gang of PichchiMasud are randomly committing dacoity and hijacking of covered van since long and he is shouldering a number of dacoity cases in different police station in the city.
 Police sources said acting on secret tip-off, police conducted raid in Chawtala area and managed to apprehend these dacoity gang members . Police also recovered one LG and 2 rounds bullet from their possession. A case has been lodged with the concerned thana under arms act, sources said. The detained sent to jail custody as directed by the concerned court, sources added.
