Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members have seized 104 pics of gold bars worth Tk 8 crore from various border area in Jashore district in the last 15 days.
Emadul Hossain, 26, a gold smuggler, was arrested along with 20 gold bars in a raid in the municipal park area of Jessore on December 21 morning.
49 BGB Jashore Battalion Commanding officer Lt. Colonel Md. Selim Reza said that in the last fifteen days, Jasshore BGB members have recovered 104 pieces of gold bars from various border areas of Jashore district.
On December 9 , 60 gold bars worth Tk 4 crore 69 lakh 30 thousand were seized from the Shahjadpur bordering area in Chaugachha upazila of Jashore district. Which weighs 6 kg.
On the afternoon of December 15, the BGB arrested a smuggler along with 24 gold bars weighing 2 kg from a passenger bus in Benapole.The value of the gold bar is 1 crore 39 lakh 80 thousand taka.
In all, the value of the 104 gold bars recovered is 8 crore 92 lakh 46 thousand taka.
According to the BGB, a gang from Benapole came to Jashore and smuggled gold bars across the border to India.
Emadul is a member of this circle. He came to Jashore to collect gold bars and take them to Benapole border.However, the BGB is continuing its intelligence activities to arrest the owner of the smuggled gold .
In particular, Putkhali, Gatipara, Agrabhulot, Ghiba, Raghunathpur, Sadipur border is being used as a safe route by the gold smuggling ring.
