A member of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was trampled to death by a herd of prowling elephants at Himchari Hill in Ramu upazila early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Lance Nayek Habibur Rahman,43, a resident of Jhalakati district.
BGB Battalion-17 commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Khandaker Saiful Alam said a herd of marauding elephants came down the hills and pounced on Habibur and trampled him about 12:30 am while he was going to the area for an operation, leaving him dead on the spot.
Later, the body was recovered and sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
