Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) clinched the men’s title and BJMC clinched the women’s title of the Independence Day Handball Tournament beating their rivals in the finals at Shaheed (Capt) M Monsur Ali Handball Stadium here on Monday.
In the men’s final, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) beat Bangladesh Police by 36-25 goals after leading the first half by 19-15 goals in the afternoon.
Mehedi Hasan scored eleven, Sagar Miah nine while Bipul Ghosh and Abdus Sattar netted five goals for the champions BGB.
Mahbubul contributed eleven while FM Helal netted four goals for the runners-up Bangladesh Police.
In the women’s final, BJMC defeated Bangladesh Ansar by 33-24 goals after dominating the first half by 17-14 goals, also in the afternoon.
Shilpi and Shirina scored nine goals each and Dalia netted eight goals for the champions BJMC while Nishi contributed 12 and Moyna six goals for the runners-up Bangladesh Ansar.
Mehedi Hasan of BGB and Dalia Akhter of BJMC were adjudged the best players of the tournament.
Additional Secretary of the Government of Bangladesh and former Vice President of Bangladesh Handball Federation Abdur Rahman was the chief guest in the day’s final and later he distributed the prizes.
President of Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF) AKM Nurul Fazal Bulbul presided over the closing function where Federation General Secretary Asaduzzaman Kohinoor was also present.
