Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were deployed in different parts of the country, including the capital, on Saturday evening ahead of the second phase of Jamaat-e-Islami’s countrywide 72-hour hartal.
The BGB and other law enforcement agencies, including police, had started patrolling the city streets to meet the emergencies, said the BGB sources.
The second-phase 48-hour shutdown called by Jamaat-e-Islami protesting its Amir Motiur Rahman Nizami’s death sentence for his crimes during the Liberation War begins on Sunday.
The 48-hour shutdown will start at 6:00am on Sunday and will end at 6:00am on Tuesday.
Jamaat-I-Islami announced the 72-hour nationwide shutdown programme hours after the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 condemned Jamaat Ameer Nizami to death on Wednesday.
