A friendly volleyball match between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) was held on a ground near Changrabandha Bazar of Jalpaiguri district inside India opposite to Burimari border in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat on Thursday.
“In the friendly match, BGB volleyball players from Rangpur 61 BGB Battalion (Teesta Battalion-2) and BSF volleyball players from Jalpaiguri 148 BSF Battalion played on the ground where the Indian people crowded to enjoy the match,” said a press release.
The match was arranged on the occasion of the Raising Day of Jalpaiguri 148 BSF Battalion aiming at further strengthening the prevailing excellent friendly relations, mutual trust and confidence between the two neighbouring border guards.
The BSF team emerged as the champions defeating the BGB team by 2-0 sets to clinch the championship trophy and the BGB team got the runners-up trophy.
Commanding Officer of Rangpur 61 BGB Battalion Lt Colonel Mohammad Mozammel Haque, psc, led the 16-member BGB delegation, including 12 volleyball players, while the 30-member BSF delegation, including 10 volleyball players, led by Commandant of 148 Jalpaiguri BSF Battalion Banambar Sahoo in the friendly volleyball match.
Later, Lt Colonel Mohammad Mozammel Haque and Banambar Sahoo jointly handed over the champions and runners-up trophies to the winner and runner-up teams in the concluding function.
Talking to BSS last afternoon, Lt Colonel Haque hopes that such types of friendly sports events would further reinforce the prevailing mutual trust, confidence and friendly relations between the two neighbouring border guards.
“The friendly volleyball match was held in a very cordial, festive and enjoyable atmosphere enchanting huge Indian spectators,” Haque added.
