Leaders of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) on Tuesday handed over a list of journalists to Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, seeking necessary assistance for them amidst the coronavirus outbreak.
BFUJ President Molla Jalal, its Secretary General Shaban Mahmud, and DUJ President Quddus Afrad and its General Secretary Sajjad Alam Tapu handed over the list to the minister at the Dhanmondi political office of Awami League chief.
The minister, also joint secretary of the ruling party, said, “Despite being under high risk of getting infected, journalists are discharging their duties. Hopefully, we’ll be able to do something positive for them soon.”
A shop has already been opened at the Jatiya Press Club for them, he mentioned.
Regarding the list, Hasan Mahmud said they discussed about bringing the listed journalists under ration facilities and financial aid schemes.
