Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) (Pro-BNP) have rejected the 9th Wage Board gazette calling it is prtielly against the interests of journalists.
In the gazette, house rent allowance has been decreased and yearly gratuity has been halved.
The union leaders said this at a rally in front of the National Press Club in the capital on Tuesday.
BFUJ President Ruhul Amin Gazi, therefore, demanded the new wage board for the journalists.
He also called for a countrywide protest on
September 24 to press home their demand. Gazi said, “Every year, journalists get two gratuities, which is equivalent to two months’ basic salary, but the 9th wage board has one gratuity only. “House rent is increasing day by day, but the government has decreased the house rent for the journalist in the 9th Wage Board, which is unacceptable.”
“I declare a country wide protest rally on September 24 for cancellation of this wage board, and I am demanding a new one which will uphold the interests of the journalists, he said.
On September 12, the government published in the form of a gazette the “Ninth Wage Board Award” for journalists and workers of newspapers and news agencies.
The Ministry of Information published the gazette dated September 12 on its website which will come into effect from the date of publication.
The government on January 29 in 2018 formed a 13-member wage board headed by retired Appellate Division Judge Md Nizamul Huque. The board submitted its report to the government on October 28, 2018.
