Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) on Sunday expressed deep concern and condemned the attack on former caretaker government adviser Barrister Mainul Hosein on the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court premises in Rangpur.
In a joint statement, BFUJ President Ruhul Amin Gazi and Secretary General M Abdullah, DUJ President Quader Gani Chowdhury and General Secretary Md Shahidul Islam said the attack on a senior citizen and former President of Supreme Court Bar Association is regrettable and unprecedented.
Court area is secured for all. But the attack on Barrister Mainul in presence of the law enforcers is not acceptable in an independent country, they said.
The leaders said, Barrister Mainul narrated the incident before the court. But the court did not take any action to nab the attackers.
They also said the government is yet to arrest any person involved in the attack on Amar Desh Editor Mahmudur Rahman in Kustia court. As a result, such incident repeated again.
They demanded immediate arrest and punishment to those culprits who were involved in the incident.
