The Ruling Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Tuesday said that the drive against illegal activities like corruption and gambling would continue across the country. He told it to the journalists at a press conference on contemporary issues held on the Secretariat premises in the capital.
” The action will be taken against anyone found involved in such activities across the country.
Drives are continuing and everyday someone is being arrested,” said the Road Transport and Bridge Minister in a press briefing.
Asked why action has been taken so late in this matter as the government has been in power for the last 11 years, Quader said “Better late than never.”
To another question about dealing with Dhaka South Jubo League President Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat, AL GS said, “No one will be spared.”
Action against corruption is a continuous process. The government will not retire from the steps to arrest the expansion of corruption and the casino business. For succees, supports and cooperations of the people and all others are necessary.
Even if anyone holding administrative post is found involved with such corruption, he or she will also be tried, he added.
Rapid Action Battalion started the drive against illegal casinos, bars and spa centres from September 19 and already arrested Dhaka city South Jubo League Organising Secretary Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan, SM Golam Kibria Shamim and AL leader and Kalabagan Krirachakra President Shafiqul Alam Firoz.
During the subsequent drives, around 200 others were arrested while some of the casinos were sealed off.
