Some unknown miscreants have strangulated a betel leaf farmer at his own betel leaf plot at Dulalmundia village under Kaligonj upazila in Jhenidah on Wednesday morning.
The victim is identified as Poresh Kumar Das, 44 son of late Nirmol Kumar Das of Dulalmundia village under Kaliganj upazila of the district.
Officer in charge (OC) Anwar Hossain of Kaliganj police station said, on Wednesday morning at around 6-00 am he went to his betel leaf plot. At the time the miscreants strangulated him with a napkin and left his body at the plot. Later, locals of the village found his body lying on the betel leaf plot and informed the police.
On information, police reached the spot and recovered the body and sent it to Jhenidah sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy.
He might be killed due to recognizing the thieves while stealing the betel leaf from his garden. The betel leaves were in scattered state in the garden. A case has been filed with Kligonj police station in this connection, OC added.
