Speakers at a post-rally discussion here underscored the need for enhancing fish farming through the best uses of existing natural resources on Wednesday.
They said that enhanced fish production can be the effective means to meet protein deficiency and poverty alleviation of the people along with employment generation.
District Fisheries Office and District Administration jointly organised the discussion in auditorium of Regional Public Administration Training Centre (RPATC) on the occasion of National Fisheries Week- 2017.
Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, and Akhter Jahan, MP, addressed the discussion as the chief and special guests respectively with Additional Deputy Magistrate Subrata Paul in the chair.
RPATC Deputy Director Ziaul Haque, Divisional Deputy Director of the Fisheries Department Abdul Wadud, Assistant Director Jahangir Alam, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Abul Kalam Azad and some successful fish farmers also spoke.
Referring to the immense prospect of the fisheries sector, lawmaker Badsha said fish production could easily be increased to a great extent if the natural resources were utilized properly. He said that initiatives would be taken to inspire farmers by providing them with latest scientific technologies.
He stressed on the need for involvement more people in fish farming to meet the increasing demand of protein.
Badsha, however, attributed that the fish production has already been enhanced significantly using modern technologies in the country.
In her remarks, Akther Jahan, MP, called for preserving extinct and indigenous fish species to meet the demand of fish.
District Fisheries Officer Subhash Kumar Shaha in his welcome speeches narrated the district level fisheries extension and development activities and highlighted the potentials of the sector.
Earlier, a colorful rally was brought out from the Chandipur area that ended at RPATC ground after parading through the main thoroughfares.
Later, different species of fish fries were released into Padma River adjacent to T-embankment.
BSS fromGaibandha adds: Whip of the Jatiya Sangad Mahabub Ara Begum Gini stressed the need for enhancing fish production in the open-water bodies of the country to meet the protein deficiency and change the socio- economic condition of fish farmers.
“Fish production can easily be increased to a great extent through the best use of existing natural resources,” she said while addressing a discussion as the chief guest at the auditorium of Zilla Parishad here on Wednesday.
District administration and department of fisheries arranged the discussion marking the National Fisheries Week that begins today across the country amid enthusiasm and befitting manner with the slogan “Machh Chashe Garbo Desh, Badley Debo Bangladesh”. . With Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Muhammad Mizanur Rahman in the chair, the discussion was addressed by Police Super M Masrukur Rahman Khaled and Mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Jahangir Kabir Milon as special guests.
District Fisheries Officer Abdud Dayan made the welcome speech at the function mentioning overall scenario of the fisheries department of the district.
The meeting was also addressed, among others, by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Alia Ferdous Zahan and District Livestock Officer Dr M Abdul Latif.
Later, the whip distributed crests among successful fish cultivators and released fish fries into a pond.
Earlier, a colorful procession led by whip Gini was brought out from Independence Square that ended at the same venue parading major streets of the town.
A good number of people, including district level officials and fish farmers, participated in the rally.
