Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) has provided jobs for 31,084 Bangladeshis in its eight EPZs in 2014-15 fiscal year almost double from the last fiscal.
It was 15,009 persons in the fiscal 2013-14, but this fiscal 31,084 persons which shows an increase of 107.10%.
Of them, 9167 persons are in Karnaphuli EPZ, 8194 in Chittagong EPZ, 5347 in Comilla EPZ, 4864 in Uttara EPZ, 4084 in Adamjee EPZ, 1129 in Ishwardi EPZ and 182 in Mongla EPZ.
Meanwhile, 17 new industries started commercial operation in the last fiscal year. At the end of FY 2014-15 the total operational industries of BEPZA reached to 445 from 428.
Among the operational industries 248 are 100% foreign, 66 joint venture and 131 are fully Bangladeshi ownership.
