BEPRC to set up nat’l lab at BUET

BUET has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council (BEPRC) for the establishment of Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Laboratory (BEPRL) at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
The agreement was signed at the BEPRC conference room at Ramna on Sunday.
Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury BB, The Prime Minister’s Adviser on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources was present as the Chief Guest at the signing ceremony while Mahbub Hossain Senior Secretary of the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources, Habibur Rahman Secretary of the Department of Power, Prof. Dr. Satya Prasad Majumder Vice-Chancellor of BUET and Muhammad Alamgir member of Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) were present as Special Guests.
At this time Director of Research and Innovation Center for Science and Engineering (RISE), BUET Prof. Dr. Muhammad Anisuzzaman Talukdar presented a report on the effectiveness of setting up the lab. Satyajit Karmakar Chairman (Secretary) of BEPRC presided over the function.
Prof. Dr. Satya Prasad Majumder Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology and Mr. Satyajit Karmakar Chairman (Secretary) of BEPRC signed the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of their respective organizations.
The laboratory will be initially set up at BUET and later its footprints will be set up in different parts of the country. The objectives that can be achieved through the establishment of BEPRL as follows:
Ensuring access to the laboratory as a central resource hub for various public / private institutions, universities, industrial establishments, engineers, scientists, researchers, students and entrepreneurs.
To sponsor the establishment of practical and innovative research links between various local and international research institutes;
Conducting various innovative activities including trainings, seminars, workshops from time to time to coordinate the needs of other stakeholders including academic research and industrial organizations;
Establish a data repository to share data with stakeholders involved in various data storage and research activities in the power and energy sector and to devise indigenous and sustainable solutions to existing problems in the energy and power sector for the implementation of SDG targets.
