Female beneficiaries under Rural Employment and Road Maintenance Program-2 (RERMP-2) of Local Govt Engineering Department (LGED) recently besieged Domar Upazila Parishad demanding payment of 8 months unpaid wage.
RERMP-2 project is a five years long govt’s social safety net program meant for extreme poor rural woman for creating employment opportunity to be concluded in June this year.
Under the project, each stakeholder is likely to get tk 150 daily as wage and of the money 33 percent would be deposited in their respective bank account so that they can get a handsome amount after expiry of the project for doing income generating works.
Upazila LGED sources informed that total 10 beneficiaries from each of 10 unions who are widow, divorcee, have disabled husband and so on enlisted to work in the program.
Agitated beneficiary Motina Begum of Gomnati union said we would get 8 months unpaid salary from September of 2016 to April of 2017 but the authority concerned making subterfuge to pay.
Regarding the agitation programme, LGED in Dhaka sent an enquiry committee to investigate the matter.
However, the LGED authority in Domar upazila sat with the agitated beneficiaries and managed to tackle the situation by paying the unpaid dues.
Shah Md. Obaidul Huq, upazila engineer of LGED said today that on next day of the agitation program by the benefiaries, we paid their 3 months salary from January-March period and they now get salary of April only.
